Morales Family Bible
Description
An account of the resource
The Morales Family Bible is a subcollection of the Morales Family Collection. The Morales family established one of the earliest Mexican-American funeral homes during the Jim Crow era, and the first Spanish-speaking radio station in Houston. This Catholic Bible belonged to Angelina Morales, the matriarch of the family. It documents the family tree and sacraments received. This Bible served as a holder of ephemera, featuring over 100 saved items and annotations, including obituaries, newspaper clippings, letters, thank-you cards, prayer cards, and event napkins.

Description
An account of the resource
Alicia Salazar Lyons is a community historian who recognized the historical, journalistic, and literary significance of a series of Spanish-language newspapers published and edited by Mexicans and Mexican Americans in San Antonio and McAllen, Texas, during the early decades of the 20th century. The collection brings together original publications, magazines, letters, photographs, and print articles that belonged to her father, Flavio Salazar, who played a key role in the editing of newspapers such as El Eco, El Mañana, and La Prensa. He was also the editor of the magazine Orientación and the final owner of the Orientación printing press, which he operated until its closure in 1976.

An account of the resource
Alicia Salazar Lyons is a community historian who recognized the historical, journalistic, and literary significance of a series of Spanish-language newspapers published and edited by Mexicans and Mexican Americans in San Antonio and McAllen, Texas, during the early decades of the 20th century. The collection brings together original publications, magazines, letters, photographs, and print articles that belonged to her father, Flavio Salazar, who played a key role in the editing of newspapers such as El Eco, El Mañana, and La Prensa. He was also the editor of the magazine Orientación and the final owner of the Orientación printing press, which he operated until its closure in 1976.

Editorial dirigida a Jose Camprubí, director del periódico <em>La Prensa</em>, protestando por la falta de compromiso de ese diario con la causa antifascista española. La protesta de Ceferino Barbazán se relaciona con la política supuestamente "neutral" de <em>La Prensa</em> y su falta de conexión con el sentimiento mayoritario de la comunidad hispana en Nueva York.
A critical editorial article addressing José Camprubí, director of the newspaper <em>La Prensa,</em> accusing him of lack of commitment with the Spanish antifascist fight. Barbazan´s protest refers to the "neutrality" of <em>La Prensa</em> and its lack of connection with the prevalent antifascist sentiment among the Hispanic community in New York.
