This digital collection includes a sampling of archival photographs, flyers, posters and news clippings from the James L. Novarro Collection. Reverend Novarro, a pastor of Houston’s Kashmere Baptist Temple and state chaplain of the Political Association of Spanish-speaking Organizations (PASO), was a civil rights activist, member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), editor of the Spanish-language newspaper <em>El Sol</em>, and host of the first Spanish-language and longest-running radio program, <em>La hora bautista</em>.

An account of the resource
A symmetrical composition features two military men sitting back-to-back. On the left, a man in a Falangist uniform, marked by the yoke and arrows symbol, grips a rifle while seated on the body of a bound and gagged civilian. On the right, a man in a Soviet-style Communist uniform, bearing the hammer and sickle, mirrors this pose, holding a rifle as he sits on a similarly bound civilian. The two soldiers exhibit nearly identical posture and expression, emphasizing moral equivalence. The civilians lie prone, gagged, and suffering.
Una composición simétrica presenta dos militares sentados espalda con espalda. A la izquierda, un hombre con uniforme falangista, marcado con el símbolo del yugo y las flechas, empuña un rifle mientras está sentado sobre el cuerpo de un civil atado y amordazado. A la derecha, un hombre con un uniforme comunista de estilo soviético, con la hoz y el martillo, imita esta pose, sosteniendo un rifle mientras se sienta sobre un civil atado de manera similar.
