La imagen representa a lxs vecinxs de Harlem más necesitadxs, esperando que llegue el cartero el día 15 y 1 de cada mes para entregarles el cheque de ayuda social que el texto describe como una especie de “maná”, pues se espera ansiosamente para poder pagar las cuentas pendientes. El texto utiliza un tono satírico, insinuando que algunos residente podrían utilizar su tiempo buscando trabajo en vez de esperar la llegada de estos cheques.

The print represents the most disadvantaged residents of Harlem as they wait for the mailman to deliver their welfare checks on the 15th and 1st of every month. He’s designated as a kind of “godsend” as the residents eagerly anticipate their deliveries in order to pay pending bills. The text uses a satirical tone, insinuating that some of the residents could make better use of their time by looking for a job rather than awaiting the arrival of these checks.
