Description
The scene represents “the three thimbles” game—known in Spain as “trilé”—noting that it was supposedly brought by migrants from San Juan who moved to New York City in the 1930s. The image portrays how the scam operates, enticing players to bet on which of the three thimbles the kernel can be found under. The modus operandi is described: one person works as the “bait”, ensuring that the one who guesses the location of the kernel can never do so correctly. The textual description names who perform the prank and the areas of Harlem in which they operate.
