La Asociación Afro-Americana–posiblemente la Asociación nacional para el progreso de las personas de color (NAACP)–ha ofrecido su apoyo en la manutención de cuarentenas y medidas para prevenir el virus. The local chapter of the Association of African Americans–possibly the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)– offered to help enforce quarantines and other measures. The Association of Young Christians, who was highly involved throughout the epidemic, accepted their help.
