Description
The sketch depicts the celebration of The Feast of the Cross, transplanted from Spain’s southern region of Andalusia to Harlem. The caption underscores that the characteristic elements of the feast were maintained: Christian crosses, traditional foods, rituals, music, and dance. Brought about by members of a rural community, this “criollo” event thrived within an Iberian- American context that “maintains intact its practices and customs at the center of the great melting pot, New York City”.
