Eisenhower
Franco is next to a Christmas tree with fascist decorations: swastikas, the three-cornered hat of the Civil Guard, a tank, a Stuka, the Falange insignia, a revolver, a football, a skull, and the fascist slogan “Arriba España.” Instead of garlands, there are chains. Instead of an angel on top of the tree, there are the gallows. Franco is excited with the many presents under the tree. The presents are labeled United Nations, Relations with De Gaulle, European Politics. Tellingly, he looks at the present labeled “Eisenhower Visit,” one of the biggest. -
